Snenca Nation of Buffalo Settles for Smaller Casino
The Seneca Nation of Indians Tribal Council has approved last Saturday, August 12, the project of a smaller casino, worth $55 million less than the original budget, in Downtown Buffalo after failed talks on their originallt proposed larger casino.
First the Seneca agreed to build a small casino that would house 100 slot machines on the corner of the Buffalo site. The agreement was the casino would begin to operate on December 9, 2007. There will still be 1,000 jobs on the line with the final casino.
Seneca failed to buy the nine-acre site that would be the site to build the casino and after the site purchase failure, the smaller casino plan came next. The plan shrinks from the original big casino to a smaller casino.
The original casino budget before was $125 million which was unveiled in June. And the budget now dropped to about $70-$90 million.
A statement from Mayor Byron said on Saturday, August 12, "While I look forward to seeing the details of the Seneca's plans, at this point I wish to make clear that the city of Buffalo looks forward to a long-term relationship of mutual respect with the Seneca Nation of Indians.
The city will remain to provide the casino with water and sewer services along with other services.
